FIFA World Cup 2010 Semi 1st Semi Final Match Review

The first of the semifinal clashes took place at the Green Point Stadium in Cape town with Netherlands taking on the Uruguayans. Both sides came into the clash with some great victories behind them and were sure to put on a great fight for the chance to play in the finals.

The team from Netherlands has been on a tear in their matches and was riding a 24 match win streak coming into the semifinals and were considered the favorites to win. Uruguay were missing out on some key players which included one of their main strikers Suarez, who had been red carded for a hand ball in the last match.

It was Sneijder who scored the second goal for the Dutch team in the 70th minute of play with a shot from 20 yards outside of the goal. The ball hit Pereira and went spinning away from the hands of the Uruguayan goal keeper. Robben then extended the lead with another goal for the Dutch in the 73rd minute when he headed in a ball from a cross by Kuyt.

Uruguay tried to fight back but were held down by the Dutch defense and had to worry about their opponents scoring more goals as the minutes started to dwindle. Pereira scored a goal for the South Americans in injury time off a  free kick to bring the scores to 3 - 2 in favor of the Dutch.
